Caravan stolen from NSW fire area: police

A man has been accused of stealing a caravan on the bushfire ravaged NSW South Coast.

A home owner discovered their caravan, worth about $40,000, was missing when returning to their property south of Batemans Bay on Saturday after bushfires impacted the area.

Police later found the caravan, along with three chainsaws and a generator which were stored inside it, and a small amount of cannabis at a property on the Princes Highway in Mogo, NSW Police said in a statement on Wednesday.

A 52-year-old man was charged with goods suspected stolen in/on premises and possess prohibited drug.

The man was refused bail to appear at Batemans Bay Local Court later on Wednesday.
