Freight train crashes into car on track

Emergency services have responded to a collision between a freight train and a vehicle about 60km north of Adelaide.

The collision happened after 3pm on Thursday in Mallala at Old Dublin Road level crossing which has a stop sign but no boom gates.

The main Mallala to Two Wells Road remains closed to all traffic as major crash investigators attend the scene.

The Australian Rail Track Corporation said it was a Pacific National freight train heading from Perth to Melbourne.

It’s not clear is anyone was in the car at the time of the accident.

The crash comes just a week after a train derailed in Melbourne leaving two people dead.
