Wild footage of the incident posted to social media appeared to show a person dousing a vehicle in an accelerant through the driver’s side window before setting it alight.

The car quickly detonated with a loud bang, sending flames into the sky.

The culprit then took off in another car, speeding away as the stolen vehicle was engulfed in flames.

Fire crews arrived on the scene and extinguished the blaze.

Police say the incident was not politically, racially or religously motivated. Picture: X

While the car fire is being treated as suspicious, Victoria Police say there is no indication this incident - which was reportedly near Jewish schools - was religiously or politically motivated.

Police are continuing their investigations.
