A car has crashed through a barrier and onto a busy walkway at Bondi Beach.

The small SUV left Notts Avenue, 100 metres from Bondi Icebergs, shortly before 10.45am and was left hanging precariously on a set of stairs before landing on its roof, NSW Police said.

Remarkably no one was injured despite the pathway being a hotspot for tourists taking photos of the famous beach. The area is also part of the coastal walk from Bondi to Bronte and Coogee.

Officers from Eastern Suburbs Police Area Command and were told two cars had been involved in a minor accident and as the drivers were exchanging details, one of the vehicles rolled forward.

No one was inside the vehicle at the time and no pedestrians were injured.

Notts Avenue remains closed, and police are urging people to avoid the area as a recovery operation is coordinated.
