An anonymous tip-off has resulted in the police seizure of nearly half a million dollars worth of cannabis plants in Sydney's inner west.

The information came through Crime Stoppers in late March and officers carried out an early-morning raid at an Ashfield property on Thursday, uncovering a hydroponic set up that included 143 cannabis plants with an estimated street value of $490,000.

A 23-year-old man has been refused bail in Bankstown Local Court and is expected to appear in Burwood Local Court on July 19.
