Cleaner's surprising decision after $7.4 million lotto jackpot

A cleaner has won more than AU$7.4 million but has made a surprising decision after pocketing his winnings.

Vito Halasan, from Surrey in British Columbia, Canada, matched all six of his numbers in the April 27 draw just days after his birthday, according to a statement from British Columbia Lottery Corporation.

“I remember scanning my ticket and seeing all these numbers,” Mr Halasan, 58, said.

“I have really blurry vision so I had to hold the ticket right up to my face. I couldn’t believe it.”

The janitor said he moved his family to Canada from the Philippines in 2009 and now hopes he can give them the life he always dreamed of.

However, winning the lottery does not mean he will be hanging up the mop and bucket.

Mr Halasan said he still planned to continue his custodial work but would cut back on his hours.

He is not the only lottery winner to refuse to throw in the day job either.

In August last year, Welshman Luke Pittard earned the nickname “McMillion” after continuing to flip burgers despite winning more than $2.4m.
