Man charged with murder in connection with 2 Colchester County homicides

Update: In a media release on Jan. 10, RCMP say Ronald Albert Canuel has been charged with two counts of second-degree murder in relation to two homicides in Colchester County. The release says he has been remanded into custody and will appear in court in Truro, N.S.

RCMP have arrested a man who was the subject of a Canada-wide warrant in connection with two homicides in December in Nova Scotia's Colchester County.

On Wednesday, police said in a news release that 35-year-old Ronald Albert Canuel of Bathurst, N.B., was found and safely arrested in New Brunswick.

Police were looking for Canuel in relation to two deaths in Nova Scotia last month.

On Dec. 21, police and EHS responded to a report of a man in medical distress at a home on Vincent Drive in Upper Onslow near Truro. The 25-year-old man from Pictou Landing First Nation was pronounced dead at the scene.

The next morning, Truro police and paramedics responded to a call about a man in distress at a home on Lavinia Drive in Truro. The 27-year-old Truro man was pronounced dead at the scene.

RCMP said in the news release that both men had gone to hospital a few days earlier with serious stab wounds.

The Nova Scotia Medical Examiner Service later ruled the deaths homicides.
