Can you see why this classic weatherboard home sold for a staggering $8.6m?

A seemingly modest weatherboard home in Sydney’s iconic Palm Beach has sold for a staggering $8.65 million.

While at first glance, the 1928 built property appears to be your run-of-the-mill family shack, a quick glance inside reveals it’s anything but.

The four-bedroom, four-bathroom waterfront home is built on 1319 square metres and boasts stunning panoramic views of the iconic beach and Barrenjoey Lighthouse.

After 121 days on the market, Geoff Ainsworth, of the billionaire poker machine family, picked up the lavish property – as a weekend getaway home for he and his wife.

Situated on the prized cul-de-sac of Northview Drive, an incredible sundeck fills the open plan living room and state of the art kitchen with natural light.

Floor to ceiling windows in several rooms also ensures the breathaking views don’t go to waste.

Unsurprisingly, the Ainsworth’s won’t be short on successful neighbours, sharing the street with ANZ banker Eddie Listorie and coffee king Les Schirato.

LJ Hooker Palm Beach’s Peter Robinson told Domain there has been more than $68 million spent in the 15 sales in Whale Beach and Palm Beach this year.

“On these numbers this is set to be the best sales years in at least a decade,” he said.
