Camilla breaks royal silence on Meghan’s family drama
It was the ugly family drama that almost marred Meghan Markle’s big day and saw global attention focused on the actress’ dysfunctional clan.
Now Meghan’s new stepmother-in-law Camilla has revealed what the royal family really thought about the headline grabbing events that saw Meghan’s dad, Thomas Markle, pull out of the royal wedding at the last minute, and leave the actress without someone to walk her down the aisle.
The Markle family was plagued by scandal in the days leading up to Meghan’s wedding, with Thomas busted trying to stage paparazzi photos of himself looking at snaps of his daughter online.
He also reportedly suffered a heart attack in the days before the ceremony, and after cancelling – and then confirming – his attendance at the ceremony, opted to undergo heart surgery rather than fly from Mexico to London for the event.
The drama saw Prince Charles forced to step in and walk the bride down the aisle, with the Duchess of Cornwall admitting the royal family was left just a confused by the turn of events as the rest of the world.
“We all wondered whatever would happen next,” Camilla said during a visit to 5 News in London.
Despite the drama surrounding the big day, the royal family – along with Meghan’s mum, Doria Ragland – rallied together, with things falling into place on the day.
“It’s nice to have something that is uplifting rather than depressing,” Camilla said.
“Everything was just perfect, including the weather, which couldn’t have been better. It was a beautiful day.”
