Bushwalker who died in the Tasmanian bush made 'poor decisions'

A bushwalker who died from hypothermia in the middle of winter on a popular Tasmanian track "tragically brought about his own demise by a series of poor decisions", a coroner has found.

Trevor Tolputt died on July 14, 2016 at Lake St Clair in the state's Central Highlands while walking the Overland Track alone in freezing and snowy weather.

In her findings, published on Tuesday, Coroner Olivia McTaggart said Mr Tolputt did not have adequate clothes or equipment, failed to plan for delays and rejected help from other walkers that would have likely ensured his safety.

Mr Tolputt set off from Ronny Creek, north of Cradle Mountain, on July 9, 2016, and was due to finish on July 14, 2016, according to The Mercury.

His body was found by another bushwalker the next morning, only about 600 to 700m from Narcissus Hut, on the northern end of Lake St Clair.
