Bus driver's heartwarming gesture for boy on first day of school

An accidental photo captured by a proud mum has gone viral after it showed the heartwarming moment that a bus driver comforted a nervous boy on his first day of school.

Axel was headed to his first day of kindergarten in Wisconsin and his mother, Amy Johnson, was was ready to photograph the memorable moment of her son’s first bus ride to school.

Axel wasn’t as excited as his mother for the first bus ride and as the four-year-old boarded the school bus, he burst into tears.

After several attempts to comfort her upset son, the bus driver announced that time was running out, so Ms Johnson stepped back and snapped the only photo she could of her son.

The heartwarming photo showed the bus driver, Isabel Lane, reaching one had behind her to hold Alxel’s hand before they took off for his first day of school.

“He started to cling to me and I told him, ‘Buddy, you got this and will have so much fun!’” Ms Lane told WEA13.

The Augusta Police Department shared the sweet image on their Facebook page and the reactions have been priceless with everyone praising the simple and kind gesture of the bus driver.

“What a precious gesture! Thank you Isabel ‘Izzy’ Lane for being such a compassionate and caring employee,” someone said.

“Beautiful, thanks to all that keep our children safe and loved every day,” another person responded.

One person suggested it could spark a first day of school tradition to help nervous students.

“I hope we get volunteers on every bus to help these first timers, poor little guy,” someone wrote.

That simple moment meant a lot to Axel and his mother told WEAU13 that her son now loves school and looks forward to seeing his favourite bus driver ‘Izzy”, every day.

“I love that people in my community are kindhearted and Izzy is definitely that,” Ms Johnson said.
