A burst water main has sunk three lanes on a busy road in Melbourne’s south east.
The hole on Glen Eira Rd is expected to cause traffic delays during peak hour this afternoon with closures between Kooyong Rd and Orrong Rd in place.
The sinkhole, defined as such because of its size, opened up around 2am on Tuesday.
Emergency crews are onsite and VicRoads has asked motorists to use detours on Glenhuntly Rd and Balaclava Rd.
The burst water main has been repaired and water service returned to neighbouring residential properties.
Nearby café owner Jimmy Marinis has told Seven News Melbourne the area today has been more or less deserted.
"Glen Eira Rd is usually like a freeway this time of day, but today there's barely a car in sight. Once I heard about it, I said to the staff, 'OK guys, let's start folding boxes,’” he said.
