Buck's party ruined after best man 'steals money put aside for dream trip'

A groom’s buck’s party has been ruined after his best man allegedly took almost $15,000 given to him to plan a dream trip to Las Vegas.

A fundraising page set up for Ben Whincup, from Greater Manchester in the UK, says he was supposed to fly to Sin City with nine of his friends and family to celebrate before his upcoming wedding.

“They had all saved for over a year and for most of them it was a massive stretch to save for it,” the gofundme page said.

“One friend was travelling from New Zealand at a cost of over (AU$3700).”

On the eve of the big bash, Mr Whincup discovered a friend who had organised the trip allegedly stole the money from all those going and had not booked anything.

“Three family members had already travelled to London and one was mid-flight from New Zealand,” the gofundme page said.

“We are gutted. The wedding is only four weeks away and… instead of flying off for the long awaited holiday they will be travelling back home (or) sitting at home wondering how this could happen.”

The fundraising page said it was something that only happened in “soap operas” and it was raising money to help give him the celebration he had planned.

“I know there are perhaps more worthy causes out there but I feel so bad for him,” the gofundme said.

“Ben spends a lot of time coaching rugby on a voluntary basis. He puts back a lot into his community.

“I would love to be able to raise something that the group could put towards another trip, even if it’s not as far afield.”

The Swindon Advertiser reports police are investigating the incident.

“As our enquiries are ongoing it would be inappropriate to comment further,” a spokesperson said.
