Browns waive Austin Seibert after two missed kicks against Ravens

That didn’t take long. Barely a day after kicker Austin Seibert missed an extra point and a field goal during the Cleveland Browns’ 38-6 loss to the Baltimore Ravens, Siebert is looking for a new job.

Cleveland.com’s Mary Kay Cabot reported on Monday afternoon that the Browns have waived Seibert.

While Seibert’s missed kicks were unfortunate, they weren’t the difference between a win and a loss. They were the difference between a 38-6 thwacking and a 38-10 beatdown. But after such a poor showing in Week 1, the Browns seem keen to make changes, any changes, that could possibly improve them in Week 2 and beyond.

To replace Seibert, Cabot reported that Cody Parkey, he of the infamous double doink, is being elevated from the practice squad.

Seibert was in his second year with the Browns, a fifth-round draft pick in 2019 out of Oklahoma. The Browns love using draft picks on kickers (they also did it in 2017), which is something no team should ever really do. Will this be the time the Browns learn their lesson? Probably not, but only time will tell.

Seibert in Cincy?

Seibert made 25 of 29 field goals in his career with Cleveland, and 30 of 35 extra points. That’s at least decent, and should get him a shot with another team. In fact, the cross-state Cincinnati Bengals are looking for a replacement kicker after Randy Bullock pulled a calf muscle while shanking a 31-yard game-winning field goal.

It’s possible that Siebert could face his former team in just a few days when the Bengals and Browns face off on Thursday Night Football.
