Even professional snake catchers were surprised when they got a call out for a deadly visitor hiding out in a bathroom vanity drawer.
“You would definitely not be expecting this when you open the top drawer in your bathroom,” Stu McKenzie from Sunshine Coast Snake Catchers wrote on Facebook.
Along with the post were three photos of a “cheeky” eastern brown snake, hiding in between hair gel and first aid supplies in a drawer in Woombye on the Sunshine Coast region.
“It just goes to show that snakes can basically hide anywhere!” Mr McKenzie wrote.
“It’s so little and innocent looking,” one person responded to the photos.
Despite being a “little brown snake” the breed is known as the second most venomous snake in the world and needed the professionals to make sure the snake found its way out of the bathroom and safely back to the wild.
Followers on social media were just as confused as the professionals, wondering how the “surprise” found its way to the top drawer.
“I thought only carpet and tree snakes could climb?” one shocked person wrote.
“Them being able to hide ‘basically anywhere’ is not comforting,” another person responded.
One person pointed out the irony of the contents of the drawer.
“At least the compression bandages will be close by if he bit you,” someone said pointing out that the first aid supplies would come in handy.
One person said the post was enough to turn them off visiting down under for life.
“I love Australia. I respect Australia. I love and respect Australia so much I'm going to stay completely away from Australia.”
