Three brothers win Lotto after playing same numbers for 40 years

Three brothers from Victoria have won over $500,000 after playing the same combination of numbers in the lottery for 40 years.

The brothers from Richmond were one of the 10 division one winners in the TattsLotto draw on Saturday, September 26, meaning the trio has won $511,318.

For 40 years, the brothers had played the same numbers in a private family syndicate, one of the brothers told officials from The Lott. They had been playing every week.

“I don’t remember why we chose these numbers exactly,” one of the brothers said.

“All I know was 40 years ago we each wrote down numbers and selected a ticket to play. We’ve been playing ever since.”

The brother said it was his honour to tell his siblings about their win, though he did admit to double checking his ticket before sharing the exciting news.

“Yesterday after I checked the ticket, I spent about 10 minutes double-checking it to make sure it was right, and I hadn’t made a mistake,” he said.

“I checked the ticket a number of times before checking the website a number of times. I just wanted to make sure it was confirmed and re-confirmed before I told them.”

The brothers purchased their entry at Winning Post in Richmond.

Owners Paul Vo and Loan Nguyen were thrilled to have sold the third winning division one entry this year.

“This is the third division one winning entry we’ve sold at our outlet this year!” they told The Lott.

“The last two division one winning entries were syndicate shares for draws in May and September respectively.”

The owners have only been in the lottery business since last year and said they were happy for the new winners.
