Driver slammed for 'arrogant' reaction to plea over disabled spot

A driver has infuriated shoppers over her “really frustrating” parking.

The woman’s BMW was snapped parked next to a disabled spot at Newmarket Village in Brisbane’s northwest last week.

Where she’s parked isn’t technically a spot, it’s a zone normally used to create space for people with disabilities so they can properly access wheelchairs and walkers when getting in and out of their vehicles.

“I explained to the driver that by parking illegally on the yellow lines that a pwd (person with disabilities) now couldn’t use this disability parking spot as there isn’t room for them to get a wheelchair alongside the door of their car,” a woman wrote in the caption.

“Response was ‘Oh’ and walked off to collect her takeaway. Some people just don’t care.”

One man called the BMW driver “arrogant”.

“No consideration for anyone else but herself,” he wrote.

One woman suggested “putting a load of shopping trolleys around her car”.

“I bet she would care if a flatbed rocked up and towed it away. Would be a very expensive meal,” another man wrote.

Another woman added the shopping centre carpark was “always insane”.

“People park on the lines all the time or the people in the carpark to the left park over the line in the disabled park. It’s really, really frustrating,” she wrote.

However, one social media user suggested the shopping centre install bollards to prevent people from parking in the zone next to the disabled park.
