Plane forced to return to Brisbane Airport after mid-flight incident

A freight plane has been forced to return to Brisbane Airport just two hours after it departed on Tuesday.

The plane was seen circling over southeast Queensland before landing back in Brisbane.

A Brisbane Airport spokesperson said an Nauru Airlines was forced to conduct a "standard air return".

The circumstances around why the plane had to return remain unclear at this stage.

There are reports the plane was operating as Air Niugini flight number ANG2006 heading for Port Moresby.
