Bridgerton spoilers follow.

Bridgerton star Jessica Madsen has shared an alternative ending for her character in season 3.

Madsen plays the Ton's sour-faced singleton Cressida Cowper, who almost had a rebrand this season as she became friends with Eloise Bridgerton.

Alas, Cressida's new friendship didn't put an end to her scheming. Part 2 of the third season saw her falsely claiming to be Lady Whistledown, as well as attempting to blackmail newly engaged Penelope Featherington and Colin Bridgerton.

After her plans go south, Cressida rides off in a carriage, banished to live with her spinster aunt in Wales. But speaking to Entertainment Weekly, Madsen revealed Cressida's fate isn't sealed.

"We did shoot a different ending. I don't know whether she is going to her aunt's because we actually don't see her aunt in the carriage. So, it could be that she's off somewhere by herself," hinted the actor.

"[In the first ending we shot], Lady Cowper actually came to save her, and got in the carriage with her and they left together," Madsen continued. "I had a caged bird in my hair with a little door and Lady Cowper had the key."

Showrunner Jess Brownell explained the decision to leave the door open on Cressida's story.

"We shot an alternate ending where her mother gets in the carriage at the end and actually chooses her daughter," Brownell said.

"It was a really beautiful moment. But in the edit, Shonda [Rhimes] and I talked about the fact that it felt like an ending for Cressida. It felt like it wrapped up her story and we intentionally wanted to leave it so that we can tell a bit more story with Cressida next season."

So where exactly did Cressida go, and will she be back to wreak more havoc?

Bridgerton seasons 1-3 are streaming on Netflix, along with Queen Charlotte: A Bridgerton Story.
