'Can't even!': Bride's coronavirus wedding party fail

A bride has been mocked on Reddit after someone shared their post to the Wedding Shaming subreddit.

The post, which was originally posed to a Facebook group called Corona Brides was by a woman who was very upset about the fact almost half of her wedding party RSVPs were people declining to attend.

She wrote, "I need a serious pep booster talk. Our guys invite list was 318 people long. We got married in June with a small private ceremony and are having the big gathering October 24.

"I am at ALMOST 50% declined rate for RSVPs. I know I can only be mad at myself for hosting a wedding party during a pandemic but really!? 50%?!?"

She continued, "And I can't even get some people to reply to me, even though they're reading my messages. Most of my list is local and we expected at least 250 to attend.

"We've had 158 say they are coming. I'm just in utter shock at all of this. And I'm getting a little depressed about it, and it's definitely showing in my attitude and mood about life, which is typically NOT who I even remotely close to being (sic). I just feel lost and defeated."

Unsurprisingly, the responses were very much unsympathetic.

"I can't believe 158 people are willing to go to this coronafest, never mind 318!" one user wrote on Reddit.

"This really smells like gift-grab disappointment," another added.

"I don't even know 158 people," one user joked.

"Wow... you would have thought people wouldn’t want to attend a large wedding in a pandemic," someone else wrote.

In response, another user said, "It's late 2020, you know better than to assume people will do the right thing."

Others questioned why the bride wasn't waiting to have a bigger party later when coronavirus is perhaps better controlled.

One user said, "I’m sure post-COVID (maybe next summer lol) will have lots of 'post-wedding parties' for couples who had tiny 10 or less people COVID courthouse weddings and now want a big reception and honeymoon.

"If I got an invitation post-COVID to a 'post wedding reception party' I would for sure go and be happy to be part of a responsible couples party."

Another added, "It’s very bizarre... I understand wanting to get married and start that chapter, but you can go to the courthouse to get married. The wedding is just a party. Celebrate next year or on your first anniversary if you REALLY need to get married during corona. The selfishness and the ego is astounding [to be honest]."

Some said they'd be happy they didn't have to pay for so many guests and would be thankful so many said no.
