Newlywed suffers 'multiple' strokes just days into honeymoon

A newlywed Sydney bride has suffered multiple strokes just days into her honeymoon in the US.

Joseph and Francheska Bechara got married on October 7 before heading to New York for their honeymoon.

But on the second day of their dream trip, Mr Bechara discovered his partner of eight years unconscious in the gym and she was rushed to hospital.

“The doctors told Joe that Francheska had suffered from multiple strokes,” a GoFundMe page set up for the couple reads.

“Francheska has undergone three major brain surgeries to reduce the swelling, which is now only the start of the recovery.”

Mr Bechara has been told it will take three to four months for his wife to fully recover and travel is also impossible.

Family friend Rooney Farah wrote on Facebook Ms Bechara’s illness was “tragic and unthinkable”.

“God bless her and the family during this hard time also give her strength and much needed help,” he wrote.

With healthcare in the US also expensive, family and friends are appealing for help to cover any accommodation for Mr Bechara along with rehab costs for his wife.

“Joe also just bought their first home in Sydney’s west as well which they were planning to move into after their honeymoon,” the page reads.

“This is another cost he has to think about while he is looking after his bride.”

DFAT has been contacted for comment.
