Bride's 'absurd' demand over sister's hair sparks outrage
A bride has stirred up fiery debate on social media after demanding that her sister straighten her naturally curly hair for her big day.
The sister took to a Facebook group to share her predicament and ask for advice on how to best protect her ringlets before the planned heat styling.
“Hey all so my sister is getting married and unfortunately won’t let me wear my hair natural,” she wrote.
“So I will be getting it heat styled for the first time since February and I’m sure products will be used that aren’t good too.
“Any tips on how to avoid as much damage as possible?”
Her fellow Facebook users were clearly incensed by the bride’s controlling ways and took to the comments to share their outrage rather than the requested styling recommendations.

“Just anyone ever telling a person they’re not ‘allowed’ to look how they look is absurd and insulting,” wrote one user.
“We get it, it’s your wedding and you want everything to look perfect. But that extends to things like your flowers, the dress, the venue, etc. it doesn’t extend to LITERAL HUMAN BEINGS who have their own autonomy and don’t belong to you,” they added.
“Her sister is a jerk for not respecting [the woman’s] comfort level here,” another put it bluntly.
Others pointed out how in their experience, curled hair was de rigour for weddings — often to the detriment of those with naturally wavy locks.
“I’m pretty sure every wedding I’ve ever been in (including my own) ended up with my hair being curled. I’m so confused. Her natural hair would look so pretty in an updo,” one wrote.
“I have curly hair. I’ve been required when getting my hair done for weddings to straighten my hair just for the stylist to curl it ‘properly’ so I got twice the heat damage,” another noted.
Some had a few extreme suggestions for how the woman could handle her sister’s ultimatum.
“I’m naturally curly. I literally refuse to heat damage my hair... hopefully this girl tells his sister to f*** right the hell off. It’s her hair,” advised one.
“I would shave my head. Check and mate, sis!” suggested another.
Not everyone was as critical of the bride’s hair rule, with one Facebook user offering an alternate option that would keep the bride happy and the sister’s hair safe from heat damage.
“Her hair is lovely but she could just wear a wig for the day instead of damaging her hair,” they wrote.
Another didn’t think that straightening her hair for a one-off event would do that much long-term harm.
“She has great hair, it’s her sister’s day and one updo flat-ironed out she can survive,” they argued.
