Bride's complaint over $10 Kmart gift from best friend backfires

A bride has been slammed online for complaining about the wedding gift she received from her best friend, claiming it was a “slap in the face”.

Taking to a Facebook group, the newlywed, from Brisbane, said she was “hurt” after receiving two $5 Kmart towels as a gift after their “exclusive” wedding ceremony and reception.

“Has anyone received any wedding gifts in the past that were a slap in the face? How did you deal with it?” the bride asked.

“My partner and I had a very exclusive wedding, all inclusive and the focus was our guests. Our best friend, husband and kids knew this and gifted us two Kmart towels, a total value of about $10.

While she may have expected people to agree with her assessment, the post was instead bombarded with comments calling her ‘mean’ and ‘shallow’.

A screenshot of the post also eventually made its way onto a wedding shaming Reddit thread where it copped more heat.

“Are you actually serious? It’s not about what you get out of it,” one person commented on Facebook.

While a fellow Aussie bride was left angry, posting on Reddit: “I live in Brisbane as well and at this stage I’ll just be happy if my wedding can go ahead in August 2021. Those people who only care about getting gifts really frustrate the hell out of me. At this rate, my wedding will be the first time I see my parents in two years (by that stage), my sister in about three years and my best friends in five years ... all because of this freaking virus.”

“Kmart towels are an awesome gift, who cares how much they cost. What a shallow person,” another wrote.
