Boy's venture raises $8000 in just two hours for sick brother's treatment

The nine-year-old brother of a baby boy suffering from a rare neurological condition has taken it upon himself to cover his sibling’s medical expenses.

Budding entrepreneur Andrew Emery raised an impressive AU$8000 in just two hours at his stall in Greenwood, South Carolina on May 26 – all from selling lemonade and stickers.

His brother, Dylan, remains at a hospital in Pittsburgh receiving ongoing treatment, prompting Andrew to do his bit to help.

“I’m gonna spend it on doctor’s bills and stuff and buy him a teddy bear too. I just want to help Dylan. He’s my baby brother,” he told The Index-Journal.

As well as the $8000 raised from his drinks stall, Andrew managed to raise $1700 from a benefit concert to add to a further $18,000 raised via a GoFundMe page.

Dylan suffers from Krabbe disease – a rare and often fatal lysosomal storage disease which slowly damages the nervous system over time.

Children with the disease on average live to the age of two, but Dylan’s doctors say, with the right treatment, this can be extended by several years.

Dylan revealed it was always his dream to have a brother and says he can’t wait for him to eventually return home.

I’m going to hug him,” he revealed.
