A young boy looking forward to a sleepover at his friend’s house has instead come across the aftermath of a horrific murder-suicide scene.
The child had just arrived at the family home in the US state of Delaware, when he came across the grisly scene, according to The Washington Post.
Police later discovered the bodies of Matthew and Julie Edwards along with their four-year-old daughter and two sons, aged three and six.
The bodies were turned over to the Forensic experts, which ruled their deaths murder and suicide.
Neighbour Wilfredo Rivera, 60, said he saw the 42-year-old father and children at their home on Sunday.
He said the children were playing with scooters, while Mr Edwards was cooking and going in and out of the home.
“He told me he was having marital problems,” Mr Rivera said.
The couple had lived there for more than a decade, and the husband had lost his job and took one in Virginia, he said.
“He seemed like an average guy… he would come outside with his kids and play,” he added.
Brian Covenko, who lives across the street, told The News Journal he last talked to Mr Edwards around Memorial Day.
“I’m just shocked. There was no way to prepare for this,” he said.
“Our kids played together. We’ve been over to barbecues. Every time he was here, he was playing with his kids. I don’t know what happened inside of doors, but I know he was outside with his kids a lot.”
