Boy mistakes father's ecstasy pills for lollies, shares them with friends

A young boy who discovered his father’s stash of ecstasy pills has shared them with his friends believing they were lollies.

The 46-year-old father was arrested by local police in Riau province, Indonesia, after the eight-year-old boy was handed the bag of drugs by his younger sibling who found them in their father’s car, Indonesian news site Detik reported.

The boy confused the drugs for lollies and began to hand them to several of his friends, aged between seven and nine.

Two of the boys refused to eat the pills due to their bitter taste however the others were taken to hospital after complaining of headaches following consumption.

“The kids thought the green pills in their parents’ car were candy. They cut up the pills and shared them with friends,” Riau Police Spokesperson Sunarto said.

The father admitted to owning the drugs, leading to his arrest. It is unknown whether he will face further charges over the negligent care of his children.

“They are feeling better now. They have received treatment,” Sunarto said of the boys.

The incident isn’t the first time a parent has inadvertently given drugs to their child after a baby died after she drank her mother’s breast milk laced with drugs.
