Boy, 7, dies after homemade igloo collapses

A seven-year-old boy has died after a homemade igloo collapsed on him, burying him and his father.

The igloo made by the pair in Tarasp in southeastern Switzerland collapsed on Tuesday about 11am (local time), police said.

The father was able to free himself and began looking for his son with other people.

Police said the boy was retrieved from the snow about 15 minutes after the igloo collapsed.

Those at the scene began resuscitating the boy until paramedics arrived.

The seven-year-old was then flown to Cantonal Hospital of Graubünden in Chur, where he later died.

"Together with the public prosecutor's office, the Graubünden canton police began investigating this tragic accident on site," Cantonal Police of Graubünden said in a statement.

"The relatives received psychological support from the Care Team Grischun."

Neither the boy or his father have been identified.
