A teenage boy has died in hospital four days after being struck by a taxi in Rutherglen.

The 16-year-old was taken to the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital in Glasgow after he was hit by the black Mercedes Vito on Main Street at about 16:10 on Tuesday.

He died as a result of his injuries on Saturday, Police Scotland confirmed.

A 58-year-old man was arrested in connection with a road traffic offence, but was later released pending further inquiries.

Police have appealed for anyone who was driving in the area at the time and may have dashcam footage to come forward.

Sgt Gemma Blackadder said: Our thoughts are with the family and friends of the teenager who died at this terrible time.

“Inquiries are ongoing to establish the full circumstances. I would appeal for anyone who was driving in the area and who may have dashcam footage that could assist to contact us.”
