Boy, 12, filmed driving erratically in shopping centre car park: 'Oh my god!'
A young boy has been caught on camera recklessly driving a vehicle through a Queensland car park as others at the busy shopping centre frantically try and stop him.
The 12-year-old was filmed reversing out of a parking space outside a supermarket in North Lakes on Saturday afternoon.
While some shoppers watched on in horror, a group of about six adults can be seen chasing after the grey Kia as the child weaves through the parking lot. He then jumps a kerb and exits onto a street as witnesses gasp in horror.
“Oh my god!” one woman says as another asks who the car belongs to. “He’s going to smash into a lot of cars!” she continues.
The footage was posted to a community Facebook page but has since been deleted. The woman who captured the video claimed the child “almost hit three cars and almost ran into five people trying to stop him”. She also warned other driver’s on the road to “be aware”.
Car found abandoned, police say
A spokesperson for Queensland Police told Yahoo News Australia they received a report about a young boy driving a car in North Lakes at around 2.30pm.
“ The vehicle was located abandoned in a nearby street around 10 minutes later and the 12-year-old driver located by police walking down the street. The vehicle was not damaged,” they said. Initial investigations suggest the boy had visited the shopping centre with an adult but had been told to wait in the car while they went inside.
“The boy then decided to take the vehicle for a drive. Police have spoken to the boy and inquiries are on-going,” the police spokesperson said. No one was injured in the incident.
Hundreds of people commented on the footage before it was removed, many of which voiced their concern for the young boy. “Hope he’s found before someone is hurt,” one person wrote. “Good on those who tried to stop him. I am just glad he is safe now and no one was hurt,” another said.
