Boy, 12, charged over crash that left two children fighting for life


A 12-year-old boy has been charged over a crash which has left two children in a critical condition.

It is alleged a boy was driving a stolen Toyota Tarago mini-van on Ross River Road in Townsville’s suburb of Kirwan on Wednesday about 7am when he lost control and the vehicle rolled.

Six people were in the car, all children aged between 10 and 14, and all were treated at the scene.

Two 10-year-old boys were hospitalised and remain in critical conditions as of Thursday night.

A 12-year-old boy was charged with seven offences including three counts of dangerous operation of a vehicle and one count each of unlawful use of a motor vehicle, enter premises and commit indictable offence by break, receiving tainted property and driving a motor vehicle without a driver licence.

A 14-year-old has also been dealt with under the provisions of the Youth Justice Act.
