Boy, 10, grabbed off boat by shark

A boy, 10, has been rushed to hospital after a shark grabbed him off a boat near Tasmania's North West Coast.

The six-metre boat was floating five kilometres from shore at the time, Ambulance Tasmania said in a statement.

"The boy ... was aboard a six-metre vessel on a fishing expedition about 5km from shore with his father and two other men when a shark grabbed him from the boat," Ambulance Tasmania said.

The boy, who was wearing a lifejacket, suffered lacerations to his arm, and other cuts to his chest and head, but is in stable condition.

It is understood the boy’s father jumped into the water and the shark swam away.

The last shark attack in Tasmania was on July 23, 2016.

A 36-year-old male surfer was followed and bumped by a shark near Clifton Beach.

This month, a teenage boy and a dad of two have been killed by sharks on Australia’s east coast.

A woman, 29, was also bitten but survived and is receiving treatment in hospital.

Anika Craney, 29, was attacked about midday on Tuesday near Fitzroy Island, off the coast of Cairns.

Ms Craney, a deckhand and documentary maker, had been swimming on a day off about 100 metres from a jetty when the shark bit her leg.

“I look down into the murky water and saw a big shark coming towards me, from my left,” the 29-year-old told 7News, adding that she had only seconds to respond.

“I flipped my body around and put the fins in front of the shark’s face, which is what we always do if we see a shark we’re not sure about.

“Usually the sharks we encounter are not aggressive and it’s not an issue. But I did that and I’m so glad I did that,” she said.

Teen dies in shark attack off NSW coast

A 17-year-old boy has died off the Mid-North coast of NSW following a suspected shark attack on July 11.

The unidentified teenage boy was surfing at Wooli Beach when he was attacked by a shark, witnesses told police.

According to NSW Police, several board-riders went to the 17-year-old’s aid before helping him to shore and the boy reportedly suffered serious injuries to his legs.

A man fatally attacked by a shark while spearfishing off Queensland's Fraser Island on July 4 has been remembered as a loving family man.

Despite paramedics working on Matthew Tratt for over and hour, he died at the scene, leaving behind a wife and two children.

Mr Tratt’s wife, Kayla, posted an image of the pair on social media, prompting friends and family to leave messages of condolences.

“An amazing couple and family and Matt will be dearly missed,” one person wrote.
