Boxer, who also works as EMT, performs CPR on collapsed Top Rank official at weigh-ins
A frightening scene hit the MGM Grand Conference Center in Las Vegas on Friday, a day before this weekend’s Top Rank event. Top Rank coordinator Pete Susens suffered a suspected heart attack a half-hour before weigh-ins were supposed to begin, according to ESPN.
Fortunately, a full-time firefighter and EMT was already on the scene. His name was DeAndre Ware, and was one of the boxers scheduled to compete on Saturday.
Ware reportedly administered chest compressions and worked with the Nevada State Athletic Commission’s doctor at the site while waiting for additional help. Susens is now reportedly responsive and communicating after being taken to a local hospital.
The boxer tweeted later he was thankful and felt he saved a life.

Per ESPN, the 32-year-old Ware has been boxing professionally for five years while also working as a full-time firefighter. He holds a 13-2-2 record is scheduled to face Steven Nelson on Saturday.
Ware also reportedly played college football at Toledo, working mostly on special teams.
