The Australian offshoot of French submarine designer Naval Group will soon have its third boss in three years.
John Davis will take on the chief executive and submarine project director roles from July 1.
He replaces Brent Clark, who had been acting in the position since last year following the surprise departure of Sean Costello.
Mr Davis has 30 years defence industry experience and has previously worked for Raytheon Australia and been involved in the air warfare destroyer project.
Mr Clark will stay on with the French parent company as a special adviser.
Naval Group has the $50 billion contract for Australia's 12 new submarines to be built in Adelaide.
The first steel for the Australian submarines is expected to be cut by 2022, with the first vessels due to enter service in the early 2030s.
The Australian submarine design will be based on France's Barracuda nuclear-powered submarine.
