Bomb scare at Christchurch airport

Christchurch airport was evacuated on Thursday morning after a suspicious item was found during bag screening.

Security identified what they believed to be an improvised explosive device, or IED, after 8am on Thursday morning.

Police were called and the domestic terminal was evacuated, affecting a string of flights.

NZ police say they are making enquiries and speaking with two people in relation to the incident.

The terminal reopened shortly before 11am.
