A body believed to be a missing six-year-old has been found in a motel room, police say.

Samuel Olson was reported missing last Thursday in south Houston. Police said they were told someone had taken the child, according to NBC.

However, investigators said they had not been able to prove Samuel had been seen since April 30.

Houston Police Chief Troy Finner broke the news about the discovery of the body in a motel in Jasper, 160kms from Houston, on Twitter late on Tuesday night (local time).

“A possible suspect is in custody and will be interviewed by our homicide investigators,” he wrote, adding that more details will come at a later date.

“I ask the entire Houston community to join HPD in sending prayers for Samuel and his family.”

ABC13 reported that Theresa Balboa, the girlfriend of Samuel’s dad, is the person being questioned.

Balboa said on Monday that she had handed over the child to his mum because the parents were involved in a custody dispute, the publication reported.

However, cops have had trouble verifying the information.

The investigation continues.
