Body discovered in freezer identified as missing mum

One of two female bodies found in a freezer in an east London flat has been identified as 38-year-old missing mother Mihrican Mustafa.

Ms Mustafa’s family has been pleading for information on the mother’s whereabouts after she was reported missing on May 10 last year.

Neighbours living in the apartment building where the bodies were discovered had reportedly claimed that Ms Mustafa was a regular visitor to occupants of the flat.

Police entered the council funded flat in Vandome Close, east London after neighbours raised concerns for the male resident.

After gaining entry to the property, officers discovered two bodies in a chest freezer.

A statement released by the UK Metropolitan Police said there had been an ongoing investigation into the disappearance of Ms Mustafa, also known as “MJ”, and have since confirmed her as one of the bodies found.

“We are now confident that one of the females found is MJ. As you can imagine, this is a devastating time for her family and we would ask for their privacy to be respected. As yet we don’t know when she died; a postmortem examination is ongoing,” Detective Chief inspector Simon Harding said.

According to the police report, the property was known to be frequented by drug users and short-term residents.

On May 1, Zarhid Younis was charged with preventing the lawful and decent burial of a dead body. The 34-year-old will next appear at Kingston Crown Court on May 29.

A 50-year-old man was also arrested on suspicion of murder on April 29 and has since been released under investigation.

Met Police have appealed for information about MJ’s death and continue enquires to identify the second female found at the address.
