Surely I can’t be the only one with an FYP dogged by so-called ‘greens girlies’ right now? It seems every other swipe during my nightly TikTok scroll sesh is a video of someone clearly in their 'clean girl' era, donned head to toe in fitness gear, her life seemingly together… and drinking her greens. And, of all the greens companies that have been born of this new trend, Bloom is the one I’ve been seeing pop up the most.
With the terms 'gut health' and 'bloating' being thrown around so often at the moment, it’s easy to get drawn in by something that promises a quick fix, and as someone who deals with bloating throughout various stages of their cycle, I was tempted by the benefits Bloom purported to offer.
With Bloom products having just become available in the UK for the first time, my curiosity about these ad-driven TikToks got the better of me: I finally bit the bullet and decided to test Bloom's Greens & Superfoods for a month to see whether they truly lived up to the hype...
What is in Bloom Greens & Superfoods?
Bloom have a variety of products that claim to help with a whole host of issues, but I went for the Greens & Superfoods Powder, which is made with 30+ ingredients, including fruit, veg, probiotics, and antioxidants that claim to specifically help deal with bloating, digestion, and low energy.
Their Greens & Superfoods mix also comes in a range of flavours, from mango to coconut, so you can see what works best for your taste profile.
What does Bloom Greens & Superfoods taste like?
As mentioned, there are multiple flavours on offer so there’s no one-size-fits-all answer to this. However, in my experience, some flavours were certainly easier to get down than others – for me, Strawberry-Kiwi was *chef’s kiss* and tasted good mixed with water and a few ice cubes (my usual concoction), but sadly I couldn’t get behind Berry or Mango so easily.
The Greens & Superfoods Powder was also great to add to smoothies and shakes which not only boosted the flavour, but helped to pack in even more fruit and fibre than the greens already offered.
How do you make a Bloom Greens & Superfoods drink?
Come on, it wouldn’t be a greens drink without the electric whisk! Even if only to feel like a real influencer for a moment, it’s definitely worth investing in their £14 handheld electric mixer, as this does all the prep work for you.
Just add a scoop of greens into water, smoothies or shakes and it’s happy whisking all day long. Although, pro tip, definitely keep the whisk nearby if you are a slow drinker. Because of the powdered texture of the greens, it tends to rest at the bottom of your glass, so a little re-whisking action and you’re all set.
What are the benefits of Bloom’s Greens & Superfoods mix?
The main health benefits Bloom claims its greens mix offer is gut health support and boosted energy. The digestive enzymes and dairy-free probiotics that are found within their ingredient list are all things which promise to relieve uncomfortable bloating while the fruits, veg, antioxidants, and adaptogens simultaneously promote energy throughout the day. A bit science-y for me, but I’ll faithfully put my gut health on the line in the name of a de-bloating cure.
It’s always hard to say whether a particular food or drink has reduced my bloating, especially over the course of a month where my luteal phase can really impact how uncomfortable and lethargic I feel. On some days I’ll feel great and ready to tackle the marathon training I’m meant to be doing, but on others, my emotional support hot water bottle is permanently attached to me. Not to be crude, but… it didn’t take long for me to find out that a large part of the de-bloating benefits come from how regular the greens can make your bowel movements (which isn’t an area I personally needed help with, but if you’re feeling a little blocked up… this could be your saving grace).
Stomach mishaps aside, I would happily recommend Bloom’s greens for energy: I tried the powder both before and after a run and it always left me feeling revitalised, rehydrated, and with a little pep in my step.
A nutritionist's view on Bloom’s Greens & Superfoods
Keen to get an expert opinion (from a professional who is not associated with Bloom), I asked Kate Hilton RD BSc, a clinical dietician with Feel Gut, to take a look at the ingredients list and share her verdict. She notes there's a good fibre blend "from chicory root, flaxseed and apple powder – however if you have FODMAP-sensitive IBS, Bloom's Greens & Superfoods may cause a flare in symptoms due to the chicory and apple."
Hilton also flags that the powder offers "high doses of certain vitamins and minerals overall, as well as polyphenols, flavonoids and fibre. But, bear in mind that the actual amount you will be getting of each of these per serving size likely won't be all that much." It is also important to consider the presence of other 'anti-nutrients' such as pseudo-B12 found in spirulina, she adds – essentially, this is a compound which can increase blood levels of B12 if you were getting a blood test, for instance, making it appear as though you have adequate levels. But in reality, this form of B12 cannot be used or absorbed in the same way as B12 derived from other sources.
On the point of gut health, Hilton says Bloom's Greens & Superfoods blend has three strains of known 'good' bacteria, but caveats it's "unknown how many of these bacteria will actually make it to the gut alive, which can impact the effectiveness of the product." She also praised the fact that Bloom's ingredients list contains real fruit and veg, not just vitamins and minerals.
Bloom's Greens & Superfoods also contains adaptogens (plants that can produce calming effects to reduce stress) and Hilton shares that some "studies have shown certain adaptogens can be neuroprotective, help to fight fatigue and reduce depressive and anxiety-induced symptoms. However, the extent as to which they do this is usually very mild, and dosages for adaptogens is strongly debated within the medical and herbal-medicine communities."

Bloom greens are available on its website or on Amazon. Prices on the Bloom website start at £39 for 30 servings. It also has stick packs (containing 15 servings), which are great for on the go or taking into the office and are currently on sale for just £29.
Final thoughts: my review of Bloom's Greens & Superfoods
Whilst Bloom Greens & Superfoods powder isn’t something I’d swear by, I can see the benefits of adding a greens powder to your regular routine.
Having a glass full of 30+ ingredients designed to be good for you not only made me feel more energised physically, but it also helped me to feel better mentally. It allowed me to get into a routine with my morning and diet, and got me considering how much fruit and veg I actually eat (spoiler: not enough). It also made me think more deeply about how I should be fueling myself for marathon prep.
I can also applaud Bloom for how versatile it is – add the greens to any drink, at any time of day, or try any flavour. With an ever eclectic mix of WFH days and office days scattered through my week, a routine is sometimes hard to come by, so relying on small habits like drinking my greens everyday helped to keep me feeling put together. Which is actually a small miracle.
Honestly, it’s quite nice to consider myself a ‘greens girly’, and I can go on with my day feeling like I might actually have my life together a little better now. After all, I wear gym gear and drink my veg.
