A teenage beauty blogger has broken down during an Instagram livestream while opening her final exam results.
Lucy Fitz, 19, has over 67,000 Instagram followers and recently completed her Leaving Certificate, which is Ireland’s final high school exam.
But she got a shock as she began to read her test scores out to her followers.
“I failed chemistry,” she says, after she opened the envelope.
The video then cuts to Ms Fitz crying.
“Hey guys, I’m not crying because I’m disappointed – like, okay, obviously I’m a bit disappointed,” she says tearfully.
“I failed chemistry, I knew I was going to fail chemistry but like I thought maybe I might pass it.”
Ms Fitz explains she was disappointed because she “spent so much time and effort” studying for the exams.
The blogger said her overall grade was “certainly not the best”, but it “could be worse”.
She insisted that “everything works out for a reason and explained she didn’t even want to further her education at university.
“Because I’m doing my own thing,” she said.
“So I’m not going to let that get in the way of anything.
“I hope everyone’s happy and if you wanted to go to college and you got your course and everything, I’m so happy for you. But if not, f**k that, it’s fine. I am not worried at all.
“There’s no point trying to be someone that I’m not by going to college.
“So, I’m just going to do what I want to do, and I’m going to keep doing what I’m doing because I love what I do and no matter what else happens, I’m just going to let me journey take me.”
The video received a lot of positive comments on Instagram.
“Don’t let a piece of paper define your achievements you already have,” one person said.
“My heart goes out to you and all the kids who don’t fit the dinosaur assessment system that our country holds up as a value system for teenagers,” said a woman claiming to be a teacher.
“The leaving cert is one, very very tiny way of looking at a person and their ability. Don’t let a result define you, don’t let points allow you to calculate your worth. College is not the only route in life.”
