Bizarre twist after man reports car stolen with child, 4, inside

A man has been arrested after he told police his car had been stolen with his four-year-old child in the backseat.

The man, 49, reported to police on Sunday his white Jaguar had been stolen from Waterloo, in the Canadian province of Ontario, about 8pm.

“The initial report stated that a four-year-old child was in the back seat of the vehicle at the time of the theft and the suspect had fled with the child still inside the vehicle,” police said.

“Through investigation, it was determined that the allegations were false.”

Police spokesperson Cherri Greeno told Global News authorities were preparing an Amber Alert to locate the child.

But it turns out, the man was driving the wrong car and had forgotten his child in the Jaguar.

Police later found the child, who was OK, in the Jaguar.

The man has been charged with driving while prohibited, child abandonment, impaired driving and several other offences.
