The bizarre item man 'stole after breaking into Woolworths'

A man will face court next month after allegedly breaking into a Woolworths store – all in the name of a bag of nuts on offer for just $2.50.

NSW Police allege the man forced open the doors of the supermarket giant’s George Street store in Sydney’s CBD early last Saturday.

CCTV footage of the incident released by police shows a man nonchalantly making his way down an escalator before grabbing a pack of nuts from a display.

He then heads back up an escalator before struggling to exit through the doors, eventually managing to squeeze through.

Police say the incident occurred at 3.20am and led to $750 worth of damage to the sliding doors.

The stolen nuts retailed at a special price of $2.50, a sign in the CCTV footage indicates.

A 47-year-old man presented himself to Marrickville Police Station on Thursday after a police appeal, where he was arrested.

He was charged with one count of breaking, entering and stealing, and is due to appear at the Downing Centre Local Court on November 11.
