'Bit cowardly': Neighbour's note about barking dog divides opinion

A letter from a disgruntled neighbour about a barking dog has left people divided.

A woman, who lives in Victoria’s Yarra Valley, shared a picture of the note on Facebook and asked whoever wrote it to get in touch with her.

“You may not be aware but your dog is currently causing a noise nuisance in the neighbourhood by barking,” the note reads.

The neighbour adds they’ve discussed it with council and both parties suggested the “first step” should be writing a note to allow the woman to fix the problem before making an official complaint.

“On the back of this letter is some information that may be of assistance to you in resolving the problem,” the note continues.

“Your cooperation at this stage is all that is needed to avoid this matter progressing any further.”

But people on Facebook were more divided over whether the issue should have been discussed rather than raised through a note.

“Cool letter. Why couldn't they knock on your door? Tad cowardly,” one man wrote.

Another added, “super cowardly”.

One woman added it’s “pretty ridiculous” whoever wrote the note “can’t put who they are”.

However, other people were far more sympathetic to the person who made the complaint.

“At least they were polite,” one man wrote.

“I have a similar issue with someone across the street from me but have been afraid to approach them about it in case they're abusive a***holes. I assume this person is just taking the same precaution.”

Another woman added it’s possible they didn’t want to discuss the issue in person.

“At least they have given you a letter rather than take the situation in their own hands,” she wrote.
