A man has been forced to get a new phone number after he was overwhelmed with birthday wishes when his sons put up a billboard asking people to call him.
Chris Ferry doesn’t turn 62 until Saturday, but already he’s received some 15,000 texts, calls and Facebook messages from people who saw the sign along a highway in Linwood, New Jersey, according to CBS News.
The sign has Mr Ferry’s phone number, his photograph and the words ’WISH MY DAD HAPPY BIRTHDAY’.
‘Nick? Nick who? You don’t know me, how do you it’s my birthday?’
Speaking with CBS, Mr Ferry said he found his rise to fame funny – at first.
“It was fun until this morning. Then I wanted to kill them [his sons]. But I’m going with it, having a good time.
One of the first messages he received was from a stranger named Nick, who sent a text saying ‘happy birthday’.
“‘Nick? Nick who? You don’t know me, how do you it’s my birthday?'” Mr Ferry said. “[They] saw it on a billboard.”
Mr Ferry said he’s received calls from as far away as Africa and Germany.
Mr Ferry’s son, who shares his name, lives in Boynton Beach, Florida. He told station WPBF he and his brother Michael never thought the sign would be such a hit.
Michael told CBS he just wanted to wish his dad “an extra special birthday”.
The board will stay up for another three weeks.
