Bill Clinton Discharged From Hospital After Christmas Health Scare
Former President Bill Clinton was discharged from hospital on Tuesday after receiving treatment for the flu, according to a spokesperson.
The 78-year-old had been admitted to Georgetown University Medical Center in Washington, D.C. on Monday afternoon after developing a fever.
“[Clinton] and his family are deeply grateful for the exceptional care provided by the team at MedStar Georgetown University Hospital and are touched by the kind messages and well wishes he received,” Clinton’s Deputy Chief of Staff Angel Ureña wrote in a post on X. “He sends his warmest wishes for a happy and healthy holiday season to all.”
Ureña said that Clinton had been in “good spirits” after he was taken to the hospital for “testing and observation” on Monday.

Since leaving the White House in 2001, Clinton has been treated for several health issues that required hospitalization. He was diagnosed with heart disease in 2004 after reporting chest pains and shortness of breath. Clinton underwent a quadruple heart bypass procedure that year and had another surgery in 2005 to “remove fluid and scar tissue from his left chest cavity,” an “occasional consequence of open-heart surgery,” according to the Clinton Foundation.
He had another heart surgery in 2010—to have two stents inserted—after another bout of chest pain. More recently, in 2021, Clinton spent several days in a hospital in California while sick with a blood infection.
