Big scare at ABC headquarters
A man has been charged after allegedly smashing a glass door at the ABC’s inner Sydney headquarters.
Police responded to reports of a disturbance at the public broadcaster’s building at Harris St, Ultimo, on Wednesday afternoon.
“Officers attached to Sydney City Police Area Command arrived to find a 48-year-old man had allegedly shattered a glass door,” NSW Police said in a statement.
The man was arrested and and charged with destroying or damaging property as well as entering prescribed premises without a lawful excuse.
The man was refused bail to appear before Downing Centre Local Court on Thursday.
An ABC spokesperson said no staff were harmed during the incident.
“A person damaged a speedstile while trying to get through the foyer,” the spokesperson said.
“He was immediately monitored by security and arrested by police and did not pose a threat to the site.”
