Big Brother 2020 finale: 'Social distancing fail' outrages viewers
Big Brother viewers are up in arms over the perceived lack of social distancing between contestants during Wednesday night’s grand finale.
Fans watched on as host Sonia Kruger announced model Chad Hurst as this season’s winner before he was smothered in hugs and kisses by his fellow housemates.
While the live finale was filmed in Sydney, NSW, where the current coronavirus restrictions are not as strict as those in Victoria, for example, people were none the less concerned about the amount of touching that went on.
The NSW Government’s current coronavirus social distancing advice is for people to ‘keep a distance of 1.5 metres’ from others and ‘do not shake hands, hug or kiss as a greeting’.

Viewers took aim at Channel 7 on Twitter for its ‘social distancing fail,’ with one user questioning whether NSW Health or police need to become involved.
“That #bbau finale was excruciating. The massive social distancing fail at the end... wtf,” wrote one Twitter user.
“So the entire cast had to social distance the entire show but the second the winner was announced, they all rushed to mingle and hug and touch? Ummmmm k... #bbau,” tweeted another.
“Curious if @NSWHealth or @nswpolice think @bigbrother_au is exempt from social distancing on live TV. Everyone hugged and kissed at the end. #covid19 #bbau,” questioned one.
“Not much social distancing #BBAU very naughty!” scolded another.
Channel 7 has been contacted for comment.
Chad Hurst wins Big Brother 2020
After 39 days in the Big Brother house, Chad, 27, managed to snag a cash prize of $234,656, pipping fellow finalists Sophie Budack and Daniel Gorringe at the post.
The model from Sydney’s western suburbs was joined by his beloved ma, Helen, on stage, revealing that part of his winnings will go to paying off her bills.
Chad dedicated his victory to his late father Neil, who passed away from cancer three years ago, saying: “I honestly think it’s fate. The old boy, it’s his show.”
