Biden to Xi: influence Russia for Ukraine peace

In a recent phone call with Chinese President Xi Jinping, U.S. President Joe Biden requested that China exert its influence over Russia concerning its aggressive actions in Ukraine, Bloomberg reported on April 2.

This dialogue on April 2 marked their first exchange since Biden and Xi's meeting in California last November.

Biden was supposed to push Xi Jinping on anti-drug efforts and discuss progress made since November to limit and stop the flow of certain precursor chemicals for the production of synthetic drugs, Bloomberg writes.

Biden planned to emphasize the importance of China leveraging its relationships with Russia and Iran to foster stability, addressing the ongoing conflict in Ukraine and the unrest in the Middle East, Blumberg reported, referencing the U.S. official.

U.S. State Department spokesperson Matthew Miller previously expressed concerns about the deepening ties between Russia and China.
