Face masks have become part of our new way of life, and with the PM today signalling that we’re unlikely to go back to being a covid-free country, it doesn’t look like they’ll be leaving us any time soon.
From today, Sydneysiders need to wear a mask every time they’re outside of their homes, with the only exception being while exercising. Masks are also mandatory outside of your home in the ACT and Victoria, while in parts of Queensland they’re required indoors.
If these rules mean that your current supply of masks is looking a little thin, we’ve got you covered with some great reusable options.

Affordable multi packs
Cotton On Foundation mask: 3 for $20 or $10 each
These cotton masks are great for everyday use with adjustable straps and a bendable nose bridge so you can adjust them to your face for a perfect fit. They’re tested to a KN90 standard and all profits from their sale go towards the brand’s charity. Unfortunately however, they only come in a small/medium size so may be a little small for some people.
M&S jersey mask: 5 for $21
This multipack is great value with five, three ply masks made of jersey cotton and an antibacterial finish. Unlike the Cotton On ones, you can’t mix and match prints, you just get five grey masks, and the elastic straps are not adjustable.
Super soft
Pure Baby adult mask: $10
This adult sized mask is made of two layers of organic cotton with an antimicrobial layer in between. It’s soft and breathable, has adjustable straps and is very well priced.
Cotton On hemp mask: $20 each or 2 for $30
Made of a soft hemp and linen blend, these masks are a larger fit than the Cotton On Foundation ones, but only come in black or white. All profits go to the Cotton On Foundation supporting girls in developing countries to stay in school.
Silky smooth
Shhh Silk mask: $35
If maskne or mask irritation is an issue for you, you could try swapping to a mask made of silk. The outer layers of these Shhh Silk masks are made of 100 percent mulberry silk with an inner filtration layer of cotton in between, and are designed to be a breathable and low irritant alternative to other cloth masks.
Lovisa silk mask: $26
Another silk option is this pleated, straight-across design from Lovisa. It has a 100 percent silk outer, adjustable straps and comes in a blush pink or navy blue.
Fun prints
Zavvi Harry Potter mask: $16
Add a little magic to your day with Harry Potter themed masks from Zavvi. They come in small, medium and large sizes and you can get them with Gryffindor, Slytherin, Hufflepuff and Ravenclaw prints. Zavvi also has fun Looney Tunes print masks available for the same price.
Cupid’s Millinery avocado mask: $30
Melbourne label Cupid’s Millinery has lots of fun designs including a little blue pig print, a koala print and this gorgeous avocado print. Available at The Iconic, they’re 100 percent cotton and have elastic straps.
Culture Kings zipper mask: $15
This design has a novelty zip pocket across the mouth and is so popular it’s been limited to one per customer. The mask has a bendable nose bridge, adjustable straps and is lined with a soft cotton jersey. Culture Kings also has big bandanna masks in a number of patterns for $10 each, and snood face and neck coverings for $20 each.
Dangerfield checked mask: $10
These checked masks from Dangerfield are currently on sale for $10, down from $15 each. They’re made of two layers of cotton and come with eight single use filters that you slip into a pocket in between.
STAX Official mask: $20
Fans of cult athleisure brand STAX can get a mask to match their activewear. The branded masks are made of polyester which may not be as soft and comfortable as natural materials like cotton, hemp or silk, and they come in black or white.
Vista Print custom mask: $25
Businesses can get their logos printed onto custom masks at Vista Print. You can either design the mask yourself, or give them the logo and they’ll mock up something for you. Discounts apply depending on the number of masks you order. Of course, you don’t have to be a business to design your own mask, anyone can order one however, there’s currently a two month waiting period due to increased demand.
