The Worthy Farm gates have swung open and closed once more, as Glastonbury ends and 2022 festival style is officially in full swing.
Last Wednesday, the festival founder Michael Eavis opened the doors for the first time in three years as it returned for it’s 50th anniversary, having been postponed during the pandemic.
In that half a century, a string of celebrities have helped coin the quintessential Brit festival-goer look; ready for rain in boots and Barbour, offset with a hint of boho chic and a smile.
If you need help with festival fashion inspiration for the rest of the season (or for the sake of sweet nostalgia) here are some of the celebrities who define Glasto style.
Need pointers on what to wear to dance in a muddy field? Look no further than Kate Moss.
The supermodel turned heads in 2005 with this metallic jumper, micro shorts and a low waist slung belt. She added a black, wide collar jacket, studded leather bag and a trusty pair of wellies for an effortlessly cool-girl look.
Also worth remembering - add a pint, tossled hair, and pout to achieve true Moss festi style.
All hail Alexa Chung in a Barbour.
The classic British countryside wax jacket is a favourite for the city set as they descend upon Somerset, so much so Chung has chosen to collaborate with the brand six times. She was seen sporting one of these designs in 2019, and polished off her look with some relaxed, high waisted denim jeans and cream high tops trainers.
This year, it was a similar story as she sported a pleated blue mini dress, plus vintage Barbour and black oval shades
Sienna Miller and Poppy Delevingne
Sienna Miller is the poster girl for boho chic festival style, and was caught dressing up her pyjamas with a hippie, fur trim Afgan coat in 2017. She grounded her outfit with walking boots appropriate for bumpy terrain and proved it is not impossible to turn a look on a walk from tent to toilet.
By her side was model Poppy Delevingne, who rocked a casual look in leggings, a hoodie, denim jacket and the ever reliable black wellies.
Both opted for big, black sunglasses which are a simple way to style out a dressed down look (not to mention hide evidence of the last night’s sins).
For 2022, Miller stuck to a stripped back style in a brown linen mini dress with a strappy tied up back, which costed £49.99 from Mango She added subtle statement deatils, with a chunky gold Missoma chain and heeled ankle boots.
Emma Corrin served a sweet, chic, and practical look for the festival in 2019, pairing a floral and frilled hem vest top with forest green, high waist shorts.
The Crown actress accessoried with matching Hunter ankle length wellies and bumbag, allowing for comfort with an edge of country style. This is a good one for sunny days after a wet night, and the ground is getting muddier - just add a jumper for when the temputure drops as the sun sets.
Cara Delevingne and Suki Waterhouse
In 2016, models Cara Delevingne and Suki Waterhouse went off the traditional Glasto fashion script, and decided to twin in hefty orange high vis jackets with plaited blue extentions in their hair. Delevingne opted for comfort with a blue adidas tracksuit underneath, while Waterhouse was simple in leggings and a striped knitted vest.
Both sensibly decided on the festival holy trinity of accesosries: black hats, glasses and wellies. After all, British festivals are a far cry from Coachella, and it is more than likely the heavens are going to open and finding yourself in nothing but a bodysuit will be regrettable. Take a page from this pair’s book, and style up the practical with a twist.
