Hunt for driver after teenage girl killed in hit-and-run

A 15-year-old girl has been killed in a hit-and-run in the early hours of Sunday morning in North Queensland.

She was walking along Nicklin Drive in Beaconsfield, about 10km north of Mackay, about 3.20am (local time) on Sunday when she was struck by a vehicle.

The teenage girl was pronounced dead at the scene, according to Queensland Police.

The vehicle failed to stop and drove off heading west after hitting the girl.

Police said they believe the vehicle involved will have panel damage as a result of the incident.

Forensic crash investigators have appealing for the driver of the vehicle, witnesses or anyone with information about the incident to contact them.
