Bali hit by 5.2 magnitude quake ahead of Schoolies week
A 5.2 magnitude earthquake has struck off the coast of Bali ahead of hundreds of young Australians arriving on the holiday island for Schoolies celebrations.
The quake struck just before 1.30am Thursday (local time), waking tourists visiting the popular Indonesian holiday destination.
Australian Year 12 students have flocked to the island in recent years to celebrate the end of their schooling – a theme that is expected to continue this year.

“Woke up a little before 1.30am this morning to an earthquake in Bali,” Melbourne woman Samantha Arnold wrote.
“I’m not gonna lie, I panicked, my stomach was in knots, I’ve never felt an earthquake this strong, it was two big tremors that had our hotel room shaking and with recent tragedies here it was hard to remain 100% calm.”
No major damage has been reported and no tsunami warning has been issued.
